On the Victoria side the Dutch harbourage to private wharves and seawalls. Asiatic Oil Company's pier near North Point and Messrs. Jardine Matheson and Company's at East Point were considerably damaged and between the latter and the Naval Yard to the West only one private pier remains. Of 16 private piers West of the Naval Yard 11, mostly timber structures were totally demolished, 3 including that of the Hongkong and Kowloon Wharf and Godown Company were considerably injured and 1 slightly damaged while a new iron structure recently erected by the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company escaped without injury. The Government pier in exclusive occupation of the Star Ferry Company lost its matted covering and suffered some minor damage.
The pier at Kowloon constructed this year for the same ferry concern by the Hongkong and Kowloon Wharf and Godown Company had its outer end left standing but out of the perpendicular and completely cut off from the sea-wall. Of the three long timber piers of the Wharf and Godown Company used by Ocean Steamers two had their decking completely stripped off; it is, I understand, only intended to repair one of them. The sea-wall belonging to the same Company in the neighbourhood of these
